Main season November-April: weather map, geography...

In spite of the fact, that the weather differ according to the particular island, after analyzing the statistics we can see, that the temperatures within the islands are mostly stable with only small deviations during the year. Constant trade winds bring warm air mostly from east, heated by number of sun rays. The near-by Golf Stream ensures warm sea even in winter. During the season since November till April, the weather use to be stable with big portion of sun light. Temperatures achieve 26 – 31°C. Water temperature varies between 27- 29°C. The night temperatures do not decrease less than 25°C.

During the season May- October, mainly in August and September, the islands often suffer from tropical storms, which use to last several days and then either decompose over some of the isles or turn to the north. Under specific conditions, when more tropical storms combine a hurricane can (but not necessarily) develop. Although the Caribbean isles belong to the tropical area, these extreme weather changes do not have to pass every year and impact majority of the islands. The last hurricane seriously impacted part of the Caribbean islands only in 2006. The season from half of February till May is generally the driest period of the whole year. The water is always warm enough and suitable for bathing.

Navigation and atmospheric situation in Caribbean – recommended sailing season is from the end of October till April, NE/SE wind during the whole year, NE/SE baffing wind in summer, speed of 10-20 knots, in winter from N, NE wind 15-25 knots, in southern part of Caribbean NE trade-wind, rather damper climate compared to islands near South American coast, where the climate is dryer.

Regarding the weather and climate, the equator closeness guarantees stable conditions for spending a holiday. Only the fact, that in summer there is a higher frequency of tropical storms more probable, determines, why majority of tourists rather arrive during winter months.

We introduce there brief information about the channels among the islands.

The channels between particular islands represent imaginary border between Atlantic Ocean and the Caribbean Sea. Trade winds blow stronger there compared to the islands. For instance, the channel between St. Vincent and St. Lucia is the beautiful demonstration of fast sailing within sea yachting. It is closed from both sides by the high pitons and therefore, a strong chimney effect develops there which causes the fast sailing, with our boat of 9 knots speed. You should take this fact into account mainly while entering the channel, when in one moment the wind blows real strong and the boat heels quickly. There are also higher waves there than along the cost. It is also good to take into account strong streams, which occur in the channels, especially in terms of the length of the passages. You can read more detailed information on this topic in the charts, which are the part of our boat equipment. It is necessary to check the actual weather forecast for the particular area before setting sail.
